ASEAN International Film Festival (AIFFA) 2013 Winners: Bugoy Cariño, Alessandra De Rossi Bag Top Acting Plums

The first ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) was held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from March 28-30. The awards night happened at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching where the Philippines emerged as big winner, clinching four awards out of seven nominations.

Alessandra De Rossi was hailed as Best Actress for her performance in the film Sta. Niña which eventually won as Best Picture in the drama category. Anita Linda's performance in the said film also earned her the Best Supporting Actress award. Coco Martin and the film's director Manny Palo were nominated for Best Actor and Best Director, respectively.

Meanwhile, Bugoy Cariño won Best Supporting Actor for the film Alagwa where Jericho Rosales is nominated for Best Actor. The other Pinoy film nominated was Mga Kidnapper Ni Ronnie Lazaro which lost to Malaysia's Istanbul Aku Datang for Best Picture (Comedy).

"Bunohan" (Malaysia)

Best Film Editing:
"Sang Martir" (Indonesia)

Best Directorial Photography:
"Rayya" (Indonesia)

Best Supporting Actor:
Bugoy Cariño, "Alagwa" (Philippines)

Best Supporting Actress:
Anita Linda, "Sta. Niña" (Philippines)

Best Actor:
Shaheizy Sam, "Songlap" (Malaysia)

Best Actress:
Alessandra de Rossi, "Sta. Niña" (Philippines)

Best Picture (Comedy):
"Istanbul Aku Datang" (Malaysia)

Best Picture (Drama):
"Sta.Niña" (Philippines)
Best Picture (Action):
"Songlap" (Malaysia)

Special Honour Award: 
"Hanyut" (Malaysia)

Special Jury Award:
"Kayan Beauties" (Myanmar),"Rectoverso" (Indonesia), "Ada Apa Dengan Rina" (Brunei), and Taxi! Taxi! (Singapore)

 Best Director:
Riri Riza, "Atambua 39 Degrees Celsius" (Indonesia)

AIFFA Lifetime Achievement Award:
Michelle Yeoh

Inaugural ASEAN Spirit Award:
"Cinta Tapi Beda" (Indonesia)

Best Student Short Film:
"Fate of Mountain" (Malaysia)

Best Professional Short Film:
"Ren Shaon" (Singapore)

More than 100 films from Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, USA, India, Russia, and Australia participated in AIFFA, the next edition of which will be held in 2015.
