Posted on February 15, 2014 | 9:36 AM

Star Cinema's Valentine offering Starting Over Again has breached the P100 million mark in just three days, making it a certified box office hit. The movie which stars Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga opened in cinemas nationwide on Wednesday.

Starting Over Again is a certified box office hit
Starting Over Again lead stars Piolo and Toni with 'Inang' Olive Lamasan
"MARAMING MARAMING SALAMAT SA SUPORTA! #startingoveragain P100 Million in JUST 3 DAYS!!" Star Cinema's Mico del Rosario posted on Instagram. "Hello P100!!! #StartingOverAgain breaches the mark in just 3 days!!! Salamat po sa suporta!!!" he added on Twitter.

Starting over Again is one of the fastest films to reach the P100 million mark. The movie opened in theaters with about P25 million and the box office gross doubled in just a matter of two days. No wonder, the over 3 million trailer views and the positive reviews of viewers translated to its immense success.

QUICK LINKS:

Star Cinema opened the year with a big box office hit in Kim Chiu and Xian Lim's Bride For Rent and with how Toni and Piolo's first movie was appreciated by the audience, it is without a doubt that the movie will surpass the P325 million set by the KimXi tandem to be the highest-grossing Valentine movie of all time.

It is also bound to be the most successful movie of lead stars Toni Gonzaga and Piolo Pascual.

Also starring Iza Calzado (who impressed moviegoers with her performance in this film) and directed by Olivia Lamasan, Starting Over Again is now showing in more than 200 theaters nationwide.

Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga Grace US Premiere of Starting Over Again

Posted on February 14, 2014 | 6:00 PM

Fresh from a recent Manila premiere that was packed with fans and a record-breaking opening day gross of P25 million, the Philippines’s “Ultimate Heartthrob” Piolo Pascual and actress-singer-host Toni Gonzaga, one of the hottest female triple threats in Philippine showbiz today, will fly almost 8,000 miles to meet their fans in the San Francisco Bay Area for the U.S. premiere of the romantic comedy, Starting Over Again.

Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga Grace US Premiere of Starting Over Again

The premiere, a Valentine’s Day offering from ABS-CBN Star Cinema and TFC@TheMovies, is set for February 15, Saturday, with 1:00pm and 6:30pm screenings at historic Fox Theatre in Redwood City.

Starting Over Again has generated huge buzz because of the chemistry of the two lead stars and the numerous positive reviews by critics, bloggers and fans who are raving over the brilliantly directed movie by the award-winning Olivia M. Lamasan, director of international Filipino blockbuster films from Star Cinema like Milan, In My Life, In the Name of Love and The Mistress, to name a few.  The screenplay was by Carmi Raymundo who wrote the recent Kim Chiu-Xian Lim blockbuster, Bride for Rent and other hits like My Amnesia Girl and It Takes A Man and a Woman.

“It’s been a while since we’ve held a movie premiere here in the U.S. and we thought that bringing the much anticipated first big screen collaboration of two of the industry’s biggest stars, one of the most successful Filipina directors of all time, and one screenwriter who has been on a blockbuster roll would make for an exciting Valentine’s Day gift to thousands of fans who want to see the movie plus Piolo and Toni in person,” said John-D Lazatin, ABS-CBN Global Head of Theatricals.

Indeed, there are great expectations for Starting Over Again from the four stellar heavyweights but they deliver in this movie.  Toni plays Ginny – bubbly, brilliant and driven – who, as a student in Architecture romantically pursues Marco (Piolo), a professor.  Eyebrows may be raised but the two genuinely fall in love, until one day, Ginny left for no apparent reason, breaking Marco’s heart into a thousand pieces.  Years later, their paths cross again: Ginny has the successful career that she dreamed of while Marco is now a chef… with a new ladylove in Patty (played by the exquisite Iza Calzado).  Seems like they are all happy.  But wait… Ginny wants Marco back. The journey of second chances begin with Ginny chasing Marco again.  But will this have a happy ending or will it end again in heartbreak?

Joining Piolo, Toni and Iza in this not-your-usual romantic comedy are young but amazing talents Joross Gamboa, Bryan Santos, Edgar Allan Guzman, Cai Cortez and Beauty.

Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla Topbill She's Dating the Gangster Movie

Posted on January 28, 2014 | 7:13 PM

Fresh from the success of MMFF 2013 entry Pagpag, today's hottest love team Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla will now star in the upcoming movie adaptation of She's Dating the Gangster, one of the best-selling books of 2013.

Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla Topbill She's Dating the Gangster Movie

The bestselling book She’s Dating the Gangster made its debut in media as an online book published in Wattpad. Afterwards, Summit Books published it last March 2013.  The book, which is written by Bianca Bernardino, consistently figured in the bestselling charts. The popularity of the work urged Star Cinema to buy the rights for a movie remake.

In a Candy Mag interview, the author said that she's seeing Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo bringing her characters to life if ever the work will be adapted into a movie. She cited Daniel's "bad boy aura" and Kathryn's vibe similar to the girl protagonist as the reason why they perfectly fit the roles.

She’s Dating the Gangster is the story of Athena Dizon who falls in love with her fake boyfriend Kenji de los Reyes, a gangster and a campus heartthrob.

With the success of movies adapted from best-selling books such as Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo, Star Cinema is now creating waves with this new project. Aside from She’s Dating the Gangster, the film outfit is also adapting the bestselling Precious Hearts Romances title of all time, Once A Princess to be topbilled by Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzales (read more about it here).

The movie adaptation of She's Dating the Gangster will be directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, the director of KathNiel's romantic series Got to Believe. The production team targets filming this March 2014.

Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzales Reunite in Movie 'Once A Princess'

After the success of Bakit Hindi Ka Cruzh ng Crush Mo at the box office, Star Cinema once again ventures in a story from a famous book, this time by Angel Bautista.

Once A Princess is about a girl named Erin Almeda, one of the elite princesses of Gibbons International School – beautiful, famous and popular. One day, she played with the innocent heart of the class geek Leonard Jamieson. Seven years later, the paths of Erin and Leonard crossed but it seemed that their roles had been reversed.

The movie will be Enchong and Erich's reunion movie after their love team hit the big screen for the first time in 2010's I Do. They, however, have teamed up in several teleseryes like Magkaribal, Maria la del Barrio and Katorse, which launched their love team.

Once A Princess will be helmed by acclaimed director Laurice Guillen (Tanging Yaman). It is expected to be released this March 2014.

This will surely excite Enchong and Erich fans. Are you ready for EnRich 2.0?

Starting Over Again by Lani Misalucha lyrics
OST from the movie Starting Over Again (Star Cinema)

And, when I hold you in my arms I promise you
You're gonna feel a love that's beautiful and new
This time I'll love you even better
Than I ever did before
And you'll be in my heart forever more

We we're just too young to know
We fell in love and let it go
So easy to say the words goodbye
So hard to let the feelings die

I know how much I need you now
The time is turning back somehow
As soon as our hearts and souls unite
I know for sure we'll get the feeling right

And now we're starting over again
It's not the easiest thing to do
I'm feeling inside again
Cause everytime I look at you
I know we're starting over again
This time we'll love all the pain away
Welcome home my lover and friend
We are starting over, over again
If we never lived alone
And then we might have never known
All of the time we spent apart
All we did was break each other's hearts

And now we're starting over again
It's not the easiest thing to do
I'm feeling inside again
Cause everytime I look at you
I know we're starting over again
This time we'll love all the pain away
Welcome home my lover and friend
We are starting over, over again

Welcome home my lover and friend
We are starting over, over again
We are starting over, over again

The achievement was announced during a thanksgiving party attended by box office director Wenn Deramas, ABS-CBN executives including President Charo Santos-Concio, Star Cinema head Malou Santos, and June Rufino of Viva Films which co-produced the movie.

According to Star Cinema, Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, an entry to the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) made history on Thursday as the highest grossing Philippine film of all time. The movie has earned P427 million since opening on Christmas Day.

Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, which was hailed MMFF 2013 2nd Best Picture, may not be the festival's top grosser but in the days leading up to the closing, organizers reported that the movie ruled daily grosses. The two-week festival closed with Vice Ganda's movie just P450,000 short of the gross earnings of top grosser My Little Bossings. [Click here for the MMFF 2013 Final Gross tally]

My Little Bossings, starring Vic Sotto, Kris Aquino, Bimby Aquino Yap and Ryzza Mae Dizon, has also crossed the P400-million mark, making it the second highest-grossing film in history. Sisterakas, which also stars Vice Ganda and Kris Aquino, as well as Ai Ai Delas Alas, now settles in third place.
