'Little Champ' Premieres March 18 on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida

Posted on March 16, 2013 | 1:17 PM

Little Champ, ABS-CBN’s newest fantaserye which will launch this Monday (March 18), marks the first teleserye appearance of new Kapamilya child wonder JB Agustin and the return of veteran actor Lito Lapid.

'Little Champ' Premieres March 18 on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida

Lapid expressed his excitement on the premise of the story because it includes horses as cast members. “The story has a mix of fantasy, comedy and drama. I also salute Caloy, the kid. He’s really good in acting,” he said.

Viewers will not only pick-up moral lessons in the story as they will be primarily entertained by the ‘superhero’ horse voiced by Maliksi Morales as Chalk, Caloy’s (JB Agustin) friend and confidant. Some of the voice actors in the soap are Eddie Garcia, Rico J. Puno, Joonie Gamboa, John Regala, and Jeffrey Tam.

Under the direction of Richard Arellano and Mervyn Brondial, the story revolves around the simple lives of Caloy, his parents Lucas (Jhong Hilario) and Helen (Precious Lara Quigaman), and their sickly horse, Chalk.

Their quiet family life will change however when Caloy’s playmate, the son of the rich haciendero Miguel (Jake Roxas), falls off a horse and dies. Miguel, who will put the blame on Caloy, will hunt the child down. Caloy will flee with his loyal horse Chalk and will find refuge under Leon del Torro (Lapid), a baranggay captain.

The forces of good and evil will clash when a meteorite falls, breaks into two, and lands separately on Chalk and Miguel. Powered by the meteorite, Chalk will change from a sickly horse to a powerful stallion that can talk while Miguel will experience evil powers, fueled by his lust for revenge.

How will Chalk’s super powers help in protecting his best friend Caloy and what will be Leon’s role in all these?

Also included in the cast are Mickey Ferriols, Coleen Garcia, Renz Fernandez, Alex Calleja, Paolo Serrano, Katya Santos, Ruben Gonzaga, and Sofia Millares, with the special participation of Jolo Revilla. “Little Champ” will run beginning on March 18 before “TV Patrol” on ABS-CBN.

Iza Calzado Can Relate to Her Bipolar Role in MMK

Posted on September 14, 2012 | 3:50 PM

Highly acclaimed actress Iza Calzado recently confessed that her second “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode, which is about a doctor who was diagnosed with major depression, is something she can personally relate to.

Iza Calzado plays a bipolar doctor in MMK this September 15
Aside from the fact that the story will tackle a father-daughter relationship, Iza immediately accepted the challenging role of a severely depressed woman because her mother went through it. “This ‘MMK’ is significant to me because it’s a very personal story,” she shared. “My mom had depression. Actually, she was bipolar. That’s why I empathized with the story.”

When asked if she ever felt depressed in her life, the Kapamilya primetime star quickly answered, “Trials are part of life. I’ve been so sad, yes. But I’ve never experienced major depression and I don’t want to reach that point.”

Iza added that she liked the life story of her character Rosalyn because she was able to overcome the severity of her disease. “I’m glad that this ‘MMK’ is a tale of triumph. She chose to fight and conquer something that would usually bring a person down. The ending is really beautiful,” she said.

In Iza’s second “MMK” episode, TV viewers will witness the personal battle of Rosalyn, a doctor who suffered from major depression due to a series of unfortunate incidents in her life, particularly because of her philandering father, Gilbert (Bembol Roco). Rosalyn got angry at her father and their relationship started to fall apart. At first, she was diagnosed to have paranoia and major depression; but later on she was brought to a psychiatrist who declared that she was ill with bipolar disorder. Despite this, Rosalyn was determined to prove them wrong so she could continue with her mission to help others as a doctor.

Aside from Iza and Bembol, the upcoming “MMK” episode will feature Louella De Cordova, Cheska Iñigo, Pia Romero, Phytos Kyriacou, Ismael Clavero, Edward Mendez, Kalila Aguilos, Lowell Conales, Kyline Alcantara, and Sofia Millares. It was researched by Alexandra Mae Martin, written by Maan Dimaculangan-Fampulme, and directed by Mae Czarina Cruz.

Posted on May 24, 2012 | 8:30 AM

Now that summer is over and school days are just around the corner, Xyriel Manabat's Wansapanataym special this Saturday (May 26) sets the tone for kids to go back in school in a positive way.

In the ‘Remote Emote’ episode, Xyriel gives life to the character of Joy, a lazy child who is not always excited to go to school because of her addiction to television. One night, Joy meets a TV salesman named Mr. Booboo (Thou Reyes) who will give her a magical remote control that will enable her to fast forward time and escape from doing her school works. Will Joy’s lack of interest in school ironically teach her a lesson? Is she finally going to learn to value her education?

Together with Xyriel in the episode are Jessa Zaragosa, Eric Fructuoso, Marissa Sanchez, and Sofia Millares. It is written by Arlene Tamayo and directed by Jojo Saguin.

Wansapanataym is a part of ABS-CBN’s “Bida Best Kid” campaign launched recently that aims to empower children by encouraging them to become who they want to be and the best that they can be.
